Carobana sits on the verge of several new housing developments and a fruit growing area, where local bananas, macadamias and blueberries are grown.

For the past 18 years the Carobana name has earned respect within the health food industry for supplying top quality carob products.

From our very first line (carob coated banana pieces) we now produce over 40 different and exciting taste experiences.

Carobana is family owned by Ian and Jean Hamey. Ian's family has owned the land for more than 60 years and originally it was a banana plantation. Bananas are still grown on part of the property and are leased out.

At the property entrance there is a small rain forest, which is home to a variety of wildlife. There is also a pond, where ducks paddle in this tranquil setting and birds fly amongst the trees.

We provide free tea and coffee to visitors, our factory tours for groups give an insight into how our products are made and our retail outlet sells our fresh carob coated products, as well as our honeycomb, carob pods, dried bananas, carob syrup, outsourced lollies and peanuts, natural ice creams and cold drinks.

In our shop we also have local craft on display and for sale, as well as quilling materials, books on quilling and finished goods. The link to Jean Hamer's quilling site is here.

Also we have on display a unique creation from a tallowwood tree. This tree was felled by Ian Hamey when in his early teens. It was his first use of a chain saw.

The stump was then burnt to ground level and eventually pushed into a dry gully. The cleared land used for banana growing. The tree trunk was used for fence posts.

After forty years Ian rediscovered the old stump. During its idle years in the gully, with rain and time exposing its tangled root system. The tips of its roots caught Ian's eye. He could now see the true beauty of the tree he felled.

With the help of a friend or two, Ian brought the stump home to be pains takingly cleaned and polished and then mounted. This process took almost 18 months.

Just prior to displaying this magnificent natural art work, Ian asked his wife Jean to write a story for the tree. After a long silence in studying the crown a story emerged. What follows is the story.

Nagara's Crown

I am the mighty tallow-wood,
A tree of strength and grace.
King amongst the forest trees,
And proudly earned my place.

My tiny seed tucked in the earth
Before the white man came.
And from the peoples of the land
I drew my forest name.

Nagara is my forest name,
clothed in green and brown.
Counted time within my girth,
held fast my tangled crown.

I sorely wept when time stood still
I gave my living heart.
But then my legacy remained,
The earth my sculptors art.

Abandoned to a gully's grave
Four decades out of time,
And yet my crown glowed brightly
From beneath the mud and grime.

My slayer sparked the Phoenix,
For my crown in glory shone.
Let all to view in wonderment,
See! My legacy lives on.
