Recipes

We have sourced a number of Carob recipes from various sources. These are reproduced below. At the beginning of each recipe we acknowledge the source with the appropriate URL.

No Bake Carob Oatmeal Bars (from http://www.grouprecipes.com/48558/no-bake-carob-oatmeal-bars.html).

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup carob powder
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 3 cups quick cooking oil

How to make it

  • In a 2 quart saucepan over medium-high heat, mix milk, honey, carob powder, and butter.
  • Bring to full boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from heat and add vanilla and peanut butter.
  • Mix well, then stir in oats and blend well
  • Put into greased 8 x 8 inch pan and refrigerate

Carob And Date Delight (from http://www.grouprecipes.com/98112/carob-and-date-delight.html)

Ingredients

  • 250g dates
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 1 cup soya milk
  • ½ cup of maple (or golden) syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla essence
  • ½ cup of carob powder
  • 1 - 1½ cups of SR wholewheat flour

How to make it

  • Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the dates
  • Allow to sit for 15 minutes
  • Blend all wet ingredients
  • Add dry ingredients
  • Pour into cake tin
  • Bake at 180C for approximately 1 hour
  • Serve with yoghurt and carob sauce
  • Or home-made custard

Carob Brownies (from: http://www.elder-one-stop.com/carob-recipes.html)

Cream together:
½ cup honey or maple syrup
3 eggs
½ cup oil

Add in order:
3/8 teaspoon salt
½ tsp vanilla
½ cup carob powder
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour (or regular flour)
½ Tablespoon baking powder

Lastly, add in 1 cup chopped nuts.

Bake at 350 F degrees in a greased pan for 25 minutes or so. A very yummy carob recipe!


Chilled Carob Cream Pie (from: http://www.elder-one-stop.com/carob-recipes.html)

Pie shell
3/8 cup of carob powder
8 oz cream cheese
3/8 cup honey
1 cup Half-and-Half
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1/2 cup water
I package of gelatin

Blend everything together except the gelatin and water. Prepare the gelatin according to instructions. Basically, in a small pan, sprinkle the packet over ¼ cup cold water and let it sit for a minute. Then stir over low heat until totally dissolved. Add this into the above mixture, along with the other ¼ cup cold water, and blend in well. Pour mixture into the pie shell. Chill until set. Top with whipped cream, if desired. It’s also delicious with ice cream. This carob recipe makes a really good healthy dessert.

carob and balsamic salad dressing http://www.carob.com.au/recipes

ingredients

4 tablespoons carob syrup
4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard
3 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon honey


Put all the ingredients into a blender and mix thoroughly


Can also use this as a marinade


The Recipe: Vegan Carob Muffins

Ingredients:

  • 7 cups whole wheat pastry flour, sifted
  • 2 Tbsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup carob powder, sifted
  • 1 1/2 cup soy plain soy milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice concentrate
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 pkg Mori-Nu soft silken tofu, drained
  • 2 Tbsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups coconut, unsweetened and shredded
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds, hulled, optional
  • 1 cup carob chips, optional

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray muffin pans with vegetable spray, or use muffin papers.
  3. In a large stainless mixing bowl, combine pastry flour, baking powder, baking soda, carob powder and coconut. Set aside.
  4. Combine in a large high-speed mixing bowl, soy milk, apple juice concentrate, canola oil, honey or substitute, tofu and vanilla. Mix on medium speed until blended and tofu is completely combined leaving no chunks.
  5. Pour liquid mixture into dry ingredients and mix with a large spatula or wooden spoon just until moistened. Do not over mix.
  6. Fold in sunflower seeds and carob chips if desired.
  7. Using a cookie scoop, deposit batter into prepared pans 3/4 full.
  8. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes, or until muffin springs back when lightly touched.
  9. Let sit 5 minutes, then carefully release muffins and let cool on a wire rack.
  10. Makes 24-30 regular size muffins. This recipe can be divided in half.
